CHICAGO--Sunstar Americas, Inc., a leader in providing advanced oral care products for both professionals and consumers worldwide, recently sponsored a formal reception and award ceremony at the 2007 Annual Midwest Society of Periodontology meeting at the Renaissance Chicago Hotel.
The annual meeting featured a Graduate Student Research Forum, in which postdoctoral and recent graduate students in the field of periodontology submitted abstracts for research performed on different topics in the periodontology field.
Three finalists were chosen to receive a $500 cash award, as well as two honorable mention plaques, and one first place plaque to the winner.
Dennis Roy, director of Professional Marketing for Sunstar Americas, presented the plaques as well as checks for $500 to three outstanding participants:
* First Place – Dr. Jeffrey R. Wessel, The Ohio State University, "Revascularization of Gingival Grafts: A Laser Doppler Flowmetry Study"
* Honorable Mention – Dr. Michael R. Franzman, The University of Iowa, "Targeted Antimicrobial Activity of SMAP28 Conjugated to IgG Antibody"
* Honorable Mention – Dr. Omid Kiarash, Case Western Reserve University, "Impact of Anti-TNF Therapy on Periodontitis in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients"
"We are extremely grateful to Sunstar for its generosity and commitment to education and the advancement of periodontal health," said Kenneth A. Krebs, DMD, executive director, Midwest Society of Periodontology. "The winner of the award, as well as his friends, were very excited and I know this meant a lot to him. It was an educational, as well as exciting, day for all attendees."
The general theme of the meeting was "Advanced Implant Therapy: Multispecialty Approaches for Predictable Implant Function and Esthetics." Between 300 and 325 members and professional guests attended the event.
