3M ESPE introduces directed flow impression tray innovation

Dec. 12, 2003
Innovation means fewer handling steps, saving an estimated five minutes per procedure as well as no more unpleasant odor or mess from a tray adhesive.

3M ESPE announces a truly unique, innovative impression tray: 3M™ ESPE™ Directed Flow Impression Tray. This new, single-use tray eliminates the need for a tray adhesive, simplifying both preliminary and final impressions while delivering outstanding quality, accurate results and easy handling.

The 3M ESPE Directed Flow impression tray is a rigid, disposable impression tray that offers excellent stability and accurate results when making preliminary impressions of temporary restorations, study models, opposing dentition, fabrication of trays (e.g. bleaching, mouthguards) and full arch final impressions for most crown and bridge procedures. The revolutionary self-retentive fleece strip holds the impression material securely in the tray, eliminating any need for a tray adhesive. This means fewer handling steps, saving an estimated five minutes per procedure as well as no more unpleasant odor or mess from a tray adhesive. In addition, the retentive fleece features striations that act as a barrier to avoid tooth/tray contact and occlusal flat-spots.

The innovative, directed-flow design minimizes flow defects and distal voids for more accurate impressions. Generated utilizing CAD/CAM technology, a significant innovation for impression trays, the 3M ESPE Directed Flow impression tray was designed based on numerous anatomical studies and measurements. Thus, the tray requires only three sizes for upper and lower impressions, allowing for an optimal fit. A built-in reservoir reduces gagging for improved patient comfort, and with a single-use tray, there is no need to disinfect and clean, as with metal trays. Further, the 3M ESPE Directed Flow impression tray can be customized, if necessary.

The 3M™ ESPE™ Directed Flow Impression Tray is perfect for use with Position™ Penta™ Quick Preliminary Impression Material, a vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) material that is an excellent replacement for traditional alginate materials because it is fast, clean and easy to use. Position Penta Quick preliminary impression material is easily mixed and dispensed at the touch of a button with the Pentamix™ Mixing Unit to achieve homogenous, void-free results. For innovation, reliability and accuracy, depend on 3M ESPE for all your impression materials needs.

"With the 3M ESPE Directed Flow impression tray, it is unnecessary to apply adhesive; it's always ready," explains Lisa Hake, market development manager, 3M ESPE. "At the same time, there's no need to stock several different trays in the office. This impression tray simplifies the impression taking procedure for both preliminary and final impressions."
