A new E-Services offering from Kodak encrypts email messages and attachments, enabling dentists to protect patient privacy and comply with federal privacy and security regulations.
With KODAK Secure Email Service, patient information and images can be transmitted securely over the Internet to referring dentists, insurers, prosthetic labs, and other third parties. Patient data is therefore protected, as mandated by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).
The service allows any electronic document, including radiology reports, lab prescriptions, electronic patient records and billing statements to be encrypted, delivered securely to any recipient, and unencrypted -- without the need for additional software at the recipient's site. It also helps protect dentists' computer systems with integrated anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-malware, and content filtering functions.
Kodak is offering a launch promotion for the new E-Service: dentists who register for this service receive their first month of KODAK Secure Email Service at no charge.
"Dental practices are anxious to meet HIPAA requirements," noted Scott Leeper, vice president of E-Services for Kodak's Dental Systems group. "This new service provides them with a straightforward, turn-key tool to accomplish this goal."
Leeper added that the service is the latest example of how Kodak, following its acquisition of PracticeWorks, Inc. last year, is able to better serve dental professionals. "The secure email service technology was originally developed for the medical radiology industry. Now that Kodak has a presence in the dental practice management software market, we've adapted it to dentistry. The winner is the dental professional, who has a proven solution for protecting patient privacy -- backed by the Kodak name."
