[Encouragement and mentorship]

I just wanted to tell you what a fantastic job you are doing on the Woman Dentist Journal.

I just wanted to tell you what a fantastic job you are doing on the Woman Dentist Journal. I have been a member of the American Association of Women Dentists for 21 years, and your magazine is superb. After 20-plus years, I pick and choose what I can make time for to read, and your magazine is on the top of what I do really read monthly.

AAWD is a phenomenal organization. Back in 1982 when we didn’t even know what to wear as women dentists - obviously prior to OSHA - I started the student woman’s dentist organization at the University of Michigan. Back then we were called “bra burners” by our male classmates for even having the organization. I did a short stint as the 9th District trustee, and it really opened my eyes to what is necessary to run a national organization. It gave me confidence to work within my local and state dental associations.

AAWD has helped me grow in so many ways. It has been there for me, and now with women dentists coming into our own, your journal will probably elevate new graduates and young women dentists to a point where men may need an AAMD, and we might smile and call them “jockey burners.” Thanks again for such a stupendous effort.
