IRVINE, California--More than 90 Pacific Dental Services affiliated offices with 1,200 volunteers, including more than 125 Pacific Dental Services affiliated dentists, served their communities Aug. 13, 2011, by participating in the Inaugural Smile Generation Serve Day.

The dental offices provided pro-bono treatment to those in need and were able to help more than 750 people during the community outreach event. In tota,l they provided more than $850,000 in free dentistry.

Pacific Dental Services affiliated offices teamed up with local organizations such as churches, nonprofits, women shelters, and youth centers to assist in making this day a huge success. The community partners assisted in identifying individuals that were in need of basic dental care. They also reached out to existing patients that may have lost their job and had treatment that needed to be done that they couldn't pay for.

"Smile Generation Serve Day is a day of giving back to our community, and that's something that Pacific Dental Services is very passionate about," said Pacific Dental Services founder, president, and CEO Stephen Thorne.

"All of the treatment provided was completely free. We were able to provide $850,000 in dentistry but we're not done; we have a number of affiliated offices who plan to do a day of free dentistry in the next few weeks. We hope to provide over one million dollars in donated dentistry."

Nationwide, patients received everything ranging from cleanings, exams, and X-rays to extractions, fillings, and crowns. The supplies for these treatments were donated by Henry Schein Dental, Ivoclar Vivadent, and Vident.
