Bill McCormick, CDT, president of Arlington Heights Ill.-based Heritage Dental Lab, joined 22 other participants Oct. 2, 2011, atop the 10,843-foot summit of San Jacinto Peak.

McCormich was part of Climb For A Cause’s 14th annual fundraising event. While not technically difficult, the Cactus to Clouds route is considered the steepest sustained elevation gain, and is ranked by Outside Magazine as one of the five most challenging hikes in the U.S.

“Supporting worthwhile, dental-related causes is part of our corporate DNA,” said McCormick who, at 62 years of age, was the oldest team member to summit San Jacinto. “Meeting fellow dental professionals in exciting locations was the icing on the cake!”

Funds raised from these efforts are earmarked for the Dentists’ Climb For A Cause's overseas dental education and treatment projects.

It is CFAC’s goal to provide preventive and restorative oral health care and education to underserved citizens.

“I first became aware of Climb For A Cause when I met Danny Bobrow at a Heritage Dental Lab seminar,“ McCormick said. "He inspired me to give something back to dentistry. Since (then) I’ve been an avid marathon runner most of my life; this naturally dovetailed into a fun event for me."

McCormick intends to help expand CFAC’s work by inviting Bobrow to present at Heritage Dental Lab’s seminar Jan. 13. 2012, at the Double Tree Hotel in Rosemont, Ill., as well as actively promoting CFAC’s work to Heritage Dental Lab’s client base.

“Bill intends to put not only his money, but his feet where his mouth is by participating in this and next year’s annual hiking event, as well as a visit to our new project on Vietnam’s central coast, taking the opportunity to climb Mt. Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest peak," Bobrow said. "I guess it’s his version of a philanthropic triathlon!” Bobrow joked.
