To be eligible for the program, students must attend schools with 80% or higher free or reduced-fee lunch plans. This year’s program began with McPhee Elementary and will visit seven Lincoln schools through April 2012. The dental sealant program will help approximately 1,050 kids in Lincoln.

“I am so proud of the work these dental students and instructors are doing in the dental sealant program,” said Karen Gustin, senior vice president-marketing, national accounts and block acquisition, Ameritas Group. “The good that is being done for the elementary students is wonderful prevention for those in the Nebraska school systems.”
After the dental screenings, a note about the children’s dental health is sent home so their parents know if their child received any sealants or if they need to see a dentist for further dental care. Students, parents, and teachers appreciate this free program and the preventive care provided by the UNMC dental hygiene department.
