Children, older adults, and people who live in rural areas are among many Americans who must overcome obstacles to receive regular dental care.
Improving Access to Oral Health Care for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations, a new report from the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, examines the scope and consequences of inadequate access to oral health services in the U.S. and recommends ways to combat economic, structural, geographic, and cultural factors that prevent access to regular quality care.

Advance copies will be available to reporters only beginning July 12, 2011. The report is embargoed and not for public release before 11 a.m. (EDT) July 13, 2011.
Following the release, committee members who wrote the report will discuss their findings at a one-hour public briefing starting at 1 p.m. at the National Press Club. Those who cannot attend may participate through a live video webcast accessible at www.national-academies.org.
