More than nine years after 9/11, Osama bin Laden is dead. With this historic news, I thought it would be good to look back at an interview I did with Dr. Angelo Longo to mark the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks that carries an even deeper meaning today.

Dr. Angelo Longo and his partner Dr. Richard Marchitto hold the distinction of having had the only practice located inside the World Trade Center complex (World Trade Center Dental Group). During this interview, Dr. Longo remembers the World Trade Center, 9/11, and gives us a New Yorker's perspective on the first year his city was without the Twin Towers.

I e-mailed Dr. Longo shortly after hearing the news of bin Laden's death and here was his response.

"The truth is I’m feeling a myriad of emotions. The news brought me back to that Tuesday morning almost 10 years ago like it was yesterday. I feel the pain and sadness again. I'm in mourning for all those people. I also feel a sense of disbelief and shock similar to what I felt after 9/11. I can't believe we finally succeeded in eliminating such an evil presence from the world.

I'm proud of our nation for accomplishing this mission. I feel a Biblical sense of justice was served by his killing that will enable me to move on to a different phase of the healing process. While Osama bin Laden remained alive, my wound from 9/11 remained open and the pain was alive. With his death I feel the wound will slowly close and the pain subside; however, the scar will remain forever!"
