CHICAGO, Illinois—The Academy of General Dentistry has named social media expert Jason Lipscomb, DDS, and professional motivator Kathy Metaxas of PLATINUM Professional Development as the two keynote speakers for the opening sessions of the AGD 2012 Annual Meeting & Exhibits June 21-24 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Dr. Lipscomb will speak on June 21, and Metaxas will speak June 22. Both sessions are free with meeting registration.
“We are excited to offer our annual meeting attendees something a little different this year,” says AGD President Howard Gamble, DMD, FAGD. “We’re providing attendees with more ways to learn by bringing in two experts whose knowledge directly impacts our attendees’ practices and their interactions with patients. Our attendees will go home with concepts that they can implement right away.”

Dr. Lipscomb will instruct meeting attendees on how to use social media to connect with patients. Dr. Lipscomb, as a general dentist who has two offices in Richmond and Fredericksburg, Va., founded Social Media for Dentists (www.socialmediadentist.com) with his business partner, Stephen Knight, in 2001. Dr. Lipscomb and White also co-authored Social Media for Dentists, a 350-page guidebook on social media.
Metaxas has presented to dental groups in numerous countries, including New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Canada, and the U.S. She manages her company, PLATINUM Professional Development, with the same motivating and fast-paced style as the AGD’s meeting attendees will experience at her session. Metaxas will focus on how communication styles vary among generations and how AGD Annual Meeting & Exhibits attendees can learn to recognize these differences and better connect with their employees and patients.
“Our attendees will get an incredible education with these two presentations,” said Dr. Gamble.
“Understanding social media is increasingly important for every business owner these days. For dentists, learning how to use social media is essential for connecting with patients and for growing your practice. At the same time, learning how to interact with different generations also is an essential business skill for today’s small business owners. And, any way in which our attendees can Iearn how to improve their practices is invaluable.”
Members and nonmembers of the AGD can reduce participation costs by taking advantage of the early bird special and registering for the AGD Annual Meeting & Exhibits before April 20, 2012. Registration is free for dental students, residents, and recent graduates.
