Chicago — Susan Savage, RDH, BSDH, of Ellensburg, Wash., was installed as the 2012-2013 president of the Chicago-based American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) on June 19 at the association’s 89th Annual Session held in Phoenix.
“As the debate about accessing health care takes place across the country, oral health is becoming an instrumental part of the discussion,” Savage said. “Since we’ll be celebrating the 100th anniversary of dental hygiene this year, I feel privileged to represent ADHA as president and be able to communicate to the public how our profession can help solve the access to care problem.”
Savage has served in various positions within ADHA, including as president-elect and vice president, a delegate, Reference Committee member, and chair of the Washington State Dental Hygienists’ Association ADHA Annual Session delegation committee and ADHA Minutes Review Committee. She has practiced dental hygiene for 24 years and is currently employed at the Mountain View Dental Center, PS. Savage spent five years working in rural Alaska with the Alaska Native Health Services as a dental disease prevention specialist.
Savage succeeds Pamela Quinones, RDH, BS, of Rockville, Md., as president. Quinones remains an ADHA officer as immediate past president, as well as the 2012-2013 chair of ADHA Institute for Oral Health.
Additional ADHA officers installed at the annual session include Denise E. Bowers, RDH, MSEd, of Lima, Ohio, president-elect; Kelli Swanson Jaecks, RDH, BSDH, MA, of Salem, Ore., vice president; and Louann M. Goodnough, RDH, BSDH of Apple Valley, Minn., treasurer. Remaining in her position as speaker of the house is Carol Jo “CJ” Inman, RDH, BS, PRP of Medford, Ore.
The newly installed district trustees for 2012-2013 are Jaclyn Gleber, RDH, EdD, of Chester Springs, Pa., District II (Conn., N.J., N.Y., Pa.); Betty Ann Kabel, RDH, BS, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., District IV (Fla., Ga., N.C., S.C.); Donnella Miller, RDH, BS, of Clarksville, Tenn., District VI (Ala., Ark., La., Miss., Tenn.); Janette Delinger, RDH, MSDH, of Lansing, Kan., District VIII (Ill., Iowa, Kan., Mo., Neb.); Jackie Alexander, RDH, of Sterling, Colo., District X (Colo. Mont., Utah, Wyo.); and Lancette VanGuilder, RDH, of Sparks, Nev., District XII (Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Nev., Ore., Wash.).
