MELVILLE, New York--Henry Schein, a distributor of health-care products and services to office-based practitioners, has announced that Alan Cohen has been appointed director of global corporate social responsibility. In his new role, Cohen will report on the company’s economic, environmental, and social performance and be responsible for the administration and management of the array of Henry Schein social responsibility activities throughout the company that seek to advance access to care, support advocacy and education, increase community wellness, facilitate health diplomacy, and provide disaster preparedness and relief. He also will provide leadership to harmonize the company’s social responsibility programs, review the progress of Henry Schein Cares programs, and provide regular feedback and reporting of results. Henry Schein Cares is the company’s global corporate social responsibility program. Cohen will work with the company’s supplier partners, health-care professional associations, and nongovernmental organizations, with whom it partners on Henry Schein Cares programs. Cohen joins Henry Schein with more than 15 years of international nonprofit experience. Most recently, he served as the senior director for strategic planning and organizational resources at UJA-Federation of New York. In this position, he drove the organization's strategic direction by building working relationships across multiple divisions and with external partners. Cohen was responsible for launching a hospice residence in the United States by bringing together public, private, and nonprofit resources. He also led the organization's grant-making initiatives in the Gulf Coast after hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and has experience in the former Soviet Union and Israel. This includes working to establish services that addressed the needs of the elderly.Cohen holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration degree from Columbia University and a B.A. in politics from Brandeis University.
