SANTA CLARA, CA Align Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALGN), manufacturers of the Invisalign System, a proprietary method of straightening teeth without unsightly wires and brackets, announced an agreement to train and certify more than 2000 members of the American Orthodontic Society, the largest association of general and pediatric dentists who practice orthodontics. Under the terms of the agreement, Align Technology will provide Invisalign training and certification to AOS member dentists at association meetings and through scheduled association education programs for the next three years.
Until July 2001, Invisalign was available only to orthodontic specialists, but align technology will train its first group of general practitioners at the AOS annual meeting in New Orleans on September 23. This training session will be a condensed six-hour program. Doctors completing the program can them submit Invisalign cases to Align Technology.
This agreement with the American Orthodontic Society allows us to reach and train the first in a long line of general dentists most likely to become Invisalign practitioners, said Zia Chisti, chief executive officer of Align Technology. We look forward to building relationships with those doctors through this important organization.
