CHICAGO--The Academy of General Dentistry has launched three new technology ventures on its Web site.

The three ventures will provide further educational benefits to its members: GD: General Discussion, an area where members can review clinical, peer-reviewed case studies and dialogue with colleagues about the findings; AGD Podcasting, a series of interviews with dental experts; and a member blog, The Daily Grind, which is available to the public.

Because health information is constantly changing, it is crucial to remain up-to-date on the latest research, procedures and technological advancements. In the GD: General Discussion section of the AGD's Web site, visitors will discover a location where they can review and discuss this new information.

Peer-reviewed case studies, published exclusively on the AGD Web site, will be uploaded on a bimonthly basis so that members can not only review the research, but discuss the findings with colleagues to learn even more.

The first case study, written by Gary S. Berkowitz, DDS, and Ronald J. Lehane, DDS, MS, and entitled "Nickel sensitivity: A case report," describes one patient's sensitivity reaction to the metal part of a crown and what was done to correct the problem.

"Creating a section of the Web site where members can view new research and add their feedback will only increase the education of our members," said Norm Magnuson, DDS, FAGD, chair of the AGD's Publications Review Council.

AGD Podcasting is a new feature that is available for members to download on the AGD Web site. It highlights AGD member Wes Blakeslee, DMD, FAGD, as he conducts interviews with notable general dentists and specialists. The first interview, between Dr. Blakeslee and Michael S. McCracken, DDS, PhD, director of Graduate Prosthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is on the topic of narrow diameter implants.

"This new technology will help the AGD reach out to members," said John Gammichia, DMD, a member of the AGD's Technology and Web Use council. "Expanding its online features is another way the AGD provides benefits to its members and advances the dental profession."

Coincidentally, the AGD's new member blog, The Daily Grind, features Dr. Gammichia every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as he describes the true and often humorous story of running a dental practice in Apopka, Fla., a suburb of Orlando. His posts can be found at http://agdblogs.blogspot.com.
