Winners from 2008 research forum poster session announced

Forum provided a platform for researchers and academicians to present new and significant research and information covering all aspects of periodontology.

The Natural Dentist sponsored the 2008 American Academy of Periodontology Research Forum Poster Session and AAP awards in basic research, clinical research, and clinical impact.

The AAP Research Forum, sponsored by The Natural Dentist, provides a platform for researchers and academicians to present new and significant research and information covering all aspects of periodontology.

This year marked the first year the session was changed to a competition format, with a cash prize awarded to the best in clinical and basic research. An AAP Clinical Impact Award, sponsored by The Natural Dentist, was given to the presenter whose research had the greatest potential for changing and improving periodontal health and patient care.

2008 AAP Poster Session Awards and award winners are:

Basic Research
* Tomoyuki Kawase, DDS, PhD, with the Institute of Medicine & Dentistry, Niigata University--Evidence to support the clinical application of cultured human periodontal sheets: Evaluation of its bone-forming potential

Clinical Research
* Richard A Reinhardt, DDS, PhD, with the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry--Longitudinal GCF Biomarkers Associated with Ongoing Clinical Attachment Loss

Clinical Impact Award Sponsored by The Natural Dentist
* Megumi Inomata, DDS, of the Department of Oral Disease Research, National Institute for Longevity Science, National Center for Gerontology--Arginine-specific gingipain A from Porphyromonas gingivalis induces Weibel-Palade body exocytosis and enhanced activation of vascular endothelial cells through protease-activated receptors through protease-activated receptors
