Dr. David Federick to be commencement speaker at Goldman School of Medicine

Alumnus will address students graduating from Boston University's doctor of dental medicine program and postdoctoral specialties on May 18.

BOSTON--Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine has invited alumnus of its specialty program in prosthodontics Dr. David Federick to speak to students graduating the doctor of dental medicine program and the postdoctoral specialties at commencement May 18, 2008.

Dr. Federick serves as adjunct clinical assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences at BUGSDM.

"Dr. Federick has made numerous praiseworthy contributions both to the profession of dentistry and to his alma mater," said BUGSDM Dean ad interim Dr. Jeffrey Hutter. "I can think of no better person to speak to our graduates as they prepare to enter the work force upon graduation."

In 2002, BUGSDM gave Dr. Federick the Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to the Profession of Dentistry.

Dr. Federick manages a private practice in restorative dentistry, periodontal-prosthetic rehabilitation, and dental implant reconstruction, in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.

Currently, Dr. Federick conducts biomaterials research at the University of California, Los Angeles and has an appointment as clinical associate professor in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston.

He previously was chief resident in maxillofacial prosthodontics at the University of Alabama Medical Center and University Hospital. From 1973 to 1981, Dr. Federick held a full-time appointment as assistant professor at the UCLA School of Dentistry. During that period, he served as a staff attending dentist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills.

Dr. Federick has presented dental continuing education courses and workshops at dental schools and professional meetings both nationally and internationally. He has published extensively in both national and international scientific journals and has contributed to dental texts.

Dr. Federick received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame, a DMD degree from the University of New Jersey School of Dental Medicine, and a certificate of advanced graduate study in prosthodontics and a master of science in dentistry from BUGSDM.

He completed a general practice residency at the State University of New York Health Sciences Center, University Hospital, Syracuse and served as a dental officer in the United States Navy. He is a fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists.
