A dentist's daughter and former Olympic gold-medal winner, Kristi Yamaguchi, won the sixth season of "Dancing With the Stars" Tuesday night, May 20. Kristi is a third-generation Japanese American and the daughter of Dr. Jim Yamaguchi and his wife, Carole, a medical secretary.
Immediately following the announcement of the winner, the two male finalists for the trophy, pro football player Jason Taylor and actor Christian de la Fuente, hoisted her up on their shoulders and carried her over to her family, including both her parents and husband, Bret Hedican, a professional hockey player. The couple has two daughters, Keara Kiyomi and Emma Yoshiko.
Kristi's pro partner on the show was Mark Ballas, who was only in his second season with the show.
