Victoria L. Champion named to position.

Victoria L. Champion, former executive director of the University of Miami, Florida Annual Fund, has been hired by the nonprofit L.D. Pankey Dental Foundation, Inc., and its educational organization, The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education, to establish a development department.

"I am delighted to welcome Victoria to this new department for the Institute that will focus on cultivating relationships with those who have passion and resources to contribute to the success of the Institute's mission," said Tony Trujillo, president and CEO of the Institute.

This mission includes the provision of noncommercially biased continuing dental education, inspiring dentists to achieve happiness and balance in their lives, educating the public about the benefits of comprehensive oral health, and increasing access to dental care to the underserved.

"It's important for the Institute to stay in touch with our constituents," said Trujillo. "The Institute has recently gone through management changes, launched a new curriculum, and is announcing this month a new outreach program to help the underserved. Our new Director of Development will play a key role in re-engaging those who have come through our courses, providing avenues for them to be an active part of the Institute's mission in our world today. The Foundation's newest initiative, Dental Access Days, is partnering Pankey-trained dentists with organizations around the country to deliver dental care to those who would not otherwise have access."

While with the University of Miami, Champion was responsible for consistent long-term growth of the university's Annual Fund, an effective annual giving program, which increased in alumni participation from 12 to 19 percent during a seven-year period. Her prior experience includes serving as campaign director and marketing director of the United Way of Miami-Dade County from 1990 to 1997.

Champion has been recognized nationally for her success in rebuilding the annual fund at the University of Miami, receiving the Circle of Excellence Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. She has been a presenter on strategic planning for the annual fund and other fundraising topics at CASE Conferences and other fundraising workshops.

Champion holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Woodbury University in Burbank, Calif., and a master's degree from the University of Miami. In addition, she is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is involved in a variety of community activities, including the Junior Orange Bowl Sports Ability Games.
