IRVINE, California--Pacific Dental Services and its affiliated offices provided a day of free dentistry Feb. 1 to more than 300 children in need.
The 33 participating offices performed dental exams, digital X-rays, cleanings, fillings, sealants, and extractions for less fortunate children who do not have access to dental care.
PDS was excited to once again team up with the American Dental Association for "Give Kids a Smile," which is held annually on the first Friday of February.
The affiliated offices worked with more than 50 nonprofit organizations, including school districts, local churches, and shelters to provide free dentistry to needy children with poor or neglected oral health in California and Arizona.
Some of the participating organizations included Olive Crest/Oak Grove, Families Forward, and the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services. Major vendor partners Proctor and Gamble, Henry Schein, and Smart Practice joined PDS by donating materials such as hygiene essentials, dental supplies, educational pamphlets, and fun stickers for all participants.
This marks the third year in a row that Pacific Dental Services has participated in the annual Give Kids a Smile event. The company's participation continues to be strong and has now served nearly 1,000 children.
A significant part of PDS is its corporate social responsibility that focuses on outreach participation. This includes an annual trip to Mexico during which PDS provides free dentistry.
Matt Hall, director of marketing said, "This is one of the most special days of the year for our company. To see how our services better the lives of these children and their families is such a blessing. The best part of the day is after each child is taken care of and our teams explain the completed treatment to the families. Almost without fail, our staff and the families break into tears of joy!"
Dr. Inaksh Johal, a PDS affiliated dentist who participated in the event, was overjoyed.
Dr. Johal said, "It was a blessing from God to be able to take care of these children. I would be willing to participate in 'Give Kids a Smile' again and again!"
