CHICAGO--The American Association of Endodontists, a voice of the endodontic specialty worldwide, installed new officers of the AAE Executive Committee for the 2009-2010 term at the group's 2009 annual session in Orlando, Fla.
Gerald N. Glickman, DDS, MS, MBA, J., was named AAE's president.
His agenda for the year centers on "Access to Care," finding ways to deliver endodontic care and help people save their natural teeth. Dr. Glickman is professor and chair of the Department of Endodontics and director of Graduate Endodontics at Texas A&M/Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. He also maintains a private endodontic practice. Active in leadership roles for the AAE, he has been a member of the executive committee since 2005. He also is a Diplomate and past president of the American Board of Endodontics.
Dr. Glickman is a leader of the American Dental Education Association, and was recognized this year with its Presidential Citation. A consultant for the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation, he serves on a number of editorial boards. The Dallas resident received a DDS from Ohio State University, an MS and Certificate in endodontics from Northwestern University, an MS in microbiology from the University of Kentucky, an MBA from Southern Methodist University, and a JD from Texas Wesleyan University.
Clara Spatafore, DDS, MS, was named president-elect.
Dr. Spatafore is a full-time private practitioner in Pittsburgh who also is an assistant professor of endodontics at Drexel University's School of Medicine and Alleghany General Hospital. A member of the AAE since 1987, she has held a variety of leadership roles with the organization, including secretary and vice president of its executive committee and director representing AAE District I. Dr. Spatafore, a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, chaired the AAE's Special Committee on Distance Learning and has served as board liaison to its continuing education, public and professional affairs and honors and awards committees, and the Journal of Endodontics editorial board. She is a member of the AAE's committee on corporate relations, as well as the budget and finance and constitution and bylaws committees.
Dr. Spatafore is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Endodontists and the Pennsylvania and Western Pennsylvania Dental Associations. She earned her DDS from West Virginia University Dental School, where she also earned an MS and Certificate in endodontics. She and her husband, Philip Bartling, reside in Sewickley, Pa. with their four children.
William T. Johnson, DDS, MS, was named vice president.
Dr. Johnson, the Richard E. Walton professor and chair of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City, has had a lengthy record of service to the AAE. In addition to representing District V on the AAE Board of Directors, Dr. Johnson has been board liaison to and member of various AAE committees. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Johnson has served in several capacities on its board of directors, including two terms each as both secretary and president.
He is also active in other professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association and the International Association for Dental Research. He is a Fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists. An author and lecturer on endodontic topics, Dr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army and the Iowa Army National Guard for 22 years. He resides in Iowa City, Iowa, and received his DDS, MS and Certificate in endodontics from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Dr. James C. Kulild, DDS, MS, was named secretary.
Dr. Kulild is a professor and director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program for Endodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in Kansas City. An AAE member since 1981, he has represented AAE District III on the AAE Board of Directors since 2005. He recently served as board liaison to the editorial board of the Journal of Endodontics and various AAE committees, and currently serves on the scientific advisory board of the JOE.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Kulild is a member of various professional associations, including the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association and the Greater Kansas City Dental Society. He spent 32 years in the U.S. Army, holding several positions in the U.S. Army Association of Endodontists and the European Association of U.S. Army Endodontists. A resident of Shawnee, Kan., Dr. Kulild holds a DDS from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, an MS in oral biology from George Washington University and his Certificate in endodontics from Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Wash.
Robert S. Roda, D.D.S., M.S., was named treasurer.
Dr. Roda is an adjunct assistant professor at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas and a visiting lecturer at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Mesa. An AAE member since 1991, Dr. Roda has chaired its continuing education committee and has served as an associate editor of the Journal of Endodontics since 2002. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in 1998.
He also was president of the Central Arizona Dental Society, and is a member of various other professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, Canadian Academy of Endodontics and the Arizona Dental Association. Dr. Roda received a DDS from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and an MS in oral biology and Certificate of Specialty in endodontics from Baylor College of Dentistry. He maintains a private practice limited to endodontics in Scottsdale, Ariz.
