HOUSTON, Texas--OrthoAccel Technologies, developers of the AcceleDent System, which is an acceleration device to enhance orthodontics, has announced Alison Davies as its new Director of Sales in the United Kingdom.
Davies has spent the last 14 years of her professional career in the dental industry, most recently for nine years as a senior manager with Align Technology, makers of Invisalign.
AcceleDent is a removable dental device that patients wear in the mouth for 20 minutes daily to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement. In November 2009, the original inventor of the AcceleDent technology, Jeremy Mao, DDS, PhD, completed a lecture tour in London.
The tour included two academic institutions, as well as an audience of orthodontic specialists at its annual conference. The product was introduced to the UK in September 2009, and the first patient in private practice was treated in the UK in October.
Davies, who also holds a diploma in dental hygiene and a BTec in dental technology, both from the University of Cardiff, said, "Introducing a new product category will come with many challenges; launching innovation always does. An exciting benefit of AcceleDent is that it can be used to enhance orthodontic treatment of any approach, regardless of the type of appliance or profile of patient."
OrthoAccel is presently controlling availability of AcceleDent in the United Kingdom to a select group of orthodontic specialists before a broader release in October 2010.
Mike Kaufman, vice president, business development and marketing for OrthoAccel said, "Alison is a perfect addition to our team at this important stage. Her experience, relationships, and skill serve as important assets for not only our UK plans, but also our broader pan-European market strategy over time."
OrthoAccel is nearing conclusion of another U.S. clinical trial at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio with an anticipated completion date during the first half of 2010.
