The T. H. Maiman Award was presented for excellence in dental laser research. This year's recipient is Dr. Linda Otis. Dr. Otis is presently Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore
College of Dental Surgery.

She began her pioneer work in the field of Optical Coherence Tomography in dentistry in 1991 at the University of California, San Francisco. This light-based noninvasive diagnostic technology provides cross-sectional imaging exhibiting micro structural detail in both hard and soft tissue, including tooth and restorations, early caries, periodontal tissue contour, sulcular depth, and connective tissue attachment. She has authored many research papers, published in peer review dental journals and has been the recipient of NIH grants for her work.

As is this year's recipient. After receiving his dental degree from the
University of British Columbia Canada Faculty of Dentistry in 1987 he began
a private practice in N.Vancouver, BC. He has held the part time position of
Assistant Clinical Professor of the Faculty of Dentistry and University of
British Columbia in the Department of Restorative Dentistry teaching
restorative and prosthodontic dentistry.

recipient. Dr. Coluzzi is presently on the faculty of the University of
California San Francisco, School of Dentistry, is a Dental Laser Educator
and Recognized Course Provider of the Academy of Laser Dentistry.
