Providence Prosthodontics Dental Group wins inaugural contest

BREA, California--David Guichet, DDS, and Debra Wasky, CDT, of Providence Prosthodontics Dental Group are the inaugural winners of Vident's prescribevita.com contest.

In June 2009, doctors and technicians were invited to submit their best before-and-after case studies to prescribevita.com.

The interactive Web site provides a place to share before-and-after case photos, explore the line of VITA restorative materials, and gain access to specials and discounts. A panel of independent experts reviewed the cases submitted based on dental esthetics and selected the case from Providence Prosthodontics Dental Group as the winner.

The Providence Prosthodontics Dental Group case featured a patient who fell as a small child and sustained a fracture of the palate. Years later, an irregular No. 9 tooth erupted, resulting in multiple failed attempts of preservation.

Due to financial limitations, the patient also delayed necessary treatment for many years. Ultimately, bone graphing and implant placement were performed. The need for an esthetically pleasing restoration led Guichet and Wasky to utilize a zirconia abutment and core over-layed with VM9 porcelain.

"The challenge with this particular restoration was not only the shade, but the wider space provided mesially/distally than No. 8," explained Dr. Wasky. "We were very pleased with the outcome and so was the patient."

The winners will receive a $1,000 check and a special commemorative plaque.
