CHICAGO--Oral Health America has announced the election of three new board members to its Board of Directors.
They are Gail B. Stoops, RDH, BSDH, senior manager North America, professional relations for Philips Sonicare; and Larry Twersky, president, 1-800-DENTIST; and Mary Lee Conicella, DMD, FAGD, national director of clinical operations for Aetna Dental.
The elections took place at Oral Health America's fall board meeting in St. Paul, Minn., home of Board chair, Kathy Zwieg, RDA, CDA, director of professional relations, PDHC Ltd.
"We could not be more thrilled to have Ms. Stoops, Mr. Twersky, and Dr.
Conicella agree to serve on the Board at this time of great opportunity for Oral Health America," said Robert Klaus, president and CEO, Oral Health America. "Their individual and collective knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm will be a great asset in furthering our mission to raise public awareness of oral health's importance to overall health."
Stoops is a graduate of the University of Alaska, Anchorage Community College Dental Hygiene Program, and Northern Arizona University. She has been active in curriculum projects and course development protocol for oral health education with the National Institute of Health; the National Institute of Dental Research-Science Transfer Task force and Philips Oral Healthcare. As a consultant and through GB Stoops Enterprises, Inc. she has presented a wide range of dental continuing education topics to audiences throughout the world. Stoops served nine years on the American Dental Hygienists' Association Board of Trustees, including the position of President in 1996. She invented and markets a window-design suction tip for use with sonic and ultrasonic scalers to decrease contaminated aerosols. Stoops works and resides in northern Arizona.
Twersky was appointed president of 1-800-DENTIST in September 2001 after serving as an external advisor and consultant for 12 years. With more than 25 years of experience in leadership, customer relationship management and complete office automation, Twersky is an industry leader. He served as
president of GoldMine Software Corporation's CRM division. Prior to that, he
founded Corporate Computer Center, which was one of the most successful
networking, CRM and consulting practices in the industry. Since joining
1-800-DENTIST in his role as president, he has led the company through
several major acquisitions, significantly affecting continued success and growth. Twersky is a member of the National Periodontal Disease Coalition and president of the alumni association of California State University, Northridge. He is also a member of the National Speakers Association, and has lectured on a variety of topics, including oral health, motivation, leadership, CRM, marketing and call center excellence.
Dr. Mary Lee Conicella received her DMD from Temple University School of
Dentistry in 1987. She received her fellowship in the Academy of General
Dentistry in Toronto in 2000. She was in private practice prior to joining Aetna in 1997, and is on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, where she has taught since 1992. Dr. Conicella resides in Pittsburgh, Pa., and is the national director of Clinical Operations for Aetna Dental. Her professional affiliations include the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the International Association for Dental Research, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Scholastic Honor Fraternity and the American Association of Dental Consultants.
