KANSAS CITY, Missouri--Dr. Julie Kangas of Escondido, Calif., has been selected as one of the 2008 Top Ten Business Women of ABWA, an annual award that has been given by the American Business Women's Association since 1956.
Each year ABWA recognizes 10 members for outstanding achievement in their careers, community involvement and educational development. Those who are selected represent ABWA and its ideals during a year of travel, public speaking and mentoring.
As a Top Ten award winner, Kangas is now eligible for consideration as the 2008 American Business Woman of ABWA, an award that will be announced Sept. 22 at the Awards Session of the Association's 2007 National Women's Leadership Conference in Greensboro, N.C.
The winners of this year's Top Ten Business Women of ABWA honors were selected for their many career and philanthropic achievements, as well as for their ability to demonstrate how their involvement in the association has contributed directly to significant career achievements.
Kangas, a dentist/owner of Citracado Dental Group, is a member of the Soaring Eagles Chapter in Escondido, Calif. Her participation in ABWA includes serving as vice president, membership and program chair.
Kangas, who was a sponsoring chapter member for the 2006 ABWA National Women's Leadership conference in Anaheim, has attended both the 2005 and 2006 ABWA National Women Leadership Conferences.
"Many of my ABWA colleagues are small business owners like myself, and face the same types of challenges I deal with on a regular basis," Kangas said. "We all must build our own businesses by finding and keeping clients, managing our finances and creating a business structure and culture that will fuel growth and help us stay focused on our goals. My leadership roles in ABWA have helped me increase my business knowledge and provide a way to help other women also."
"Julie Kangas and each of the other 2008 Top Ten Business Women are an inspiration to all ABWA members," said Carolyn Elman, chief executive officer of ABWA. "The Top Ten Business Women of ABWA are exemplary role models who personify the excellence toward which we all strive."
