OGDEN, Utah--Orthoease and its partner Orthodontic Management Solutions have announced that Michael F. Richards, DDS, is the winner of the 2008 Orthoease and OMS Practice Makeover Contest.

The announcement was made by Faisal Naveed, Orthoease's chief executive officer. Dr. Richards was chosen from more than 70 orthodontic practices from around the country.

"Our judges had a lot of qualified practices to choose from, but Dr. Richards' stood out the most," Naveed said. "After speaking with him, we realized that he was the perfect choice for this prize. We are thrilled to present this prize to Dr. Richards and his staff. We at Orthoease and OMS know that Dr. Richards and his staff will truly benefit from this."

Dr. Richards has been practicing for 16 years. He has offices in Salt Lake City and Riverton, Utah, and employs a staff of 11. This includes an associate, allowing both practices to be open at the same time.

Dr. Richards will receive a free Orthoease software package valued at $28,000.

OMS will also provide a free consulting package containing one-on-one coaching to Dr. Richards and his staff on ways to improve the practice's efficiency, marketing and revenue. The program, valued at $7,000, includes on-site consulting, as well as an off-site orthodontic training workshop offered by Scarlett Thomas, president of OMS, at the Paradise Resort and Spa in San Diego, Calif.

"We feel very fortunate to have been selected for this tremendous opportunity," Dr. Richards said. "We had visited a very successful office that was using Orthoease and we were seriously considering converting from our current practice-management software. To win this contest is huge and will allow us to invest in the practice in ways we felt we were unable to do at the present time."

Having used three rival software packages and still feeling like none of them fully "tie it all together," Dr. Richards believes the Orthoease software will allow a more user-friendly package that will tie practice management, accounting and clinical management together taking his practice to the next level.

"I'm confident that this combination of Orthoease software, coupled with Scarlett's expert guidance, will allow us to learn how to an effectively integrate practice management software and staff-run practice systems to improve our performance and step things up several notches."
