Company unveils first phase of building

GC Corporation, Japan, displays initial phase of R&D Building.

TOKYO, Japan--GC Corporation, Japan, had the unveiling ceremony of the first phase of the new R&D Building on Feb. 8 with 80 guests in attendance.

GC was established in 1921. In 1959, in the chaos of postwar Japan, GC constructed the original R&D Building. Since then, GC has been pushing toward the second stage of expansion and modernization of its facilities.

In 2004, toward realization of Vision 2010, celebration of the 90th and 100th anniversaries--under the company motto of "SEMUI"--GC decided to pursue the 5 missions as the prerequisites.

To realize the 5 missions, GC has decided to construct the new R&D Building for creative space. In developing this new creative space, GC had three ideas based on the concept "communication loop."

First, the famous anecdote of the prestigious Dr. Ernest Rutherford's Laboratory (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory), which has produced as many as 12 Nobel Prize winners.

This laboratory allowed researchers to walk freely and exchange opinions with each other without wasting time. This is considered to be their greatest strength.

Second, many good ideas tend to occur during a conversation. This is based on the concept of gene mutation. Using the thinking of Dr. Rachel Louise Carson, environmentalist and exponent/researcher of "the chain logic," a kind of gene mutation through communication exists.

Third, the logic of "BA" (source of dynamism of the company) was advocated by Prof. Hiroyuki ITAMI (corporate management) of the Hitotsubashi University. If sharing of information increases in a "BA" and causes resonance of psychological energy, it will lead to sharing of inspiration and emotions.

Makoto Nakao, president & CEO of GC Corporation, hoped to realize these three ideas. He believes his hope has been fulfilled by the new R&D creative space. GC continues to contribute to the further development of world dentistry, which is directly linked to the improvement of quality of life of the world public by efforts for realization of the company motto.
