Aetna has announced that Patricia Farrell, a 15-year company veteran who has run a regional business and has a background in finance and strategic planning, has been named head of the Aetna Dental business.
The announcement was made by Mark T. Bertolini, senior vice president of Aetna Specialty Products, which is made up of the, which includes dental, pharmacy, group insurance, behavioral health and other operations. Farrell will assume the leadership positionpost of leadingfor the 11.2 million-member dental business beginning on June 1.
"Pat will be responsible for all facets of the dental business, including efforts to grow membership, expand our networks and product offerings, and build both top- and bottom bottom-line growth," Bertolini said. "She brings great experience to her new position, including her most recent role as head of strategic planning for the corporation, where she led the initiative to build Aetna's long-term strategic plan."
Prior to serving as head of Aetna's strategic planning department, Farrell was the Regional regional Manager manager for the former Capitol Region for Aetna, where she was responsible for the profitability, marketing, sales, patient management, underwriting, network development and overall management activities for that business. She also served as regional finance officer and in various financialjobs positions in Aetna Health Plans and National Accounts. She served as the Chief chief of Staff staff to Aetna's Chairman Ronald Compton from 1993-1995 as well as the Chief chief of Staff staff of in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer from 1991-1993. She began her career at Aetna in 1989 as Director director of Financial financial ReportingreportingReporting, in the Corporate Controller'sControllers office.
Farrell began her career in public accounting and joined Aetna from Price Waterhouse. Pat She is a Certified Public Accountant and has a B.S. degree from Quinnipiac College.
