Teeth that have undergone endodontic therapy are often rendered compromised in terms of structural integrity and esthetics. To combat this common issue, dentists often use endodontic fiber posts to recreate abutments and preserve tooth strength. But placing a fiber post can be time-consuming and inefficient, adding multiple steps to an already complicated endodontic procedure. 3M Oral Care has introduced a new glass fiber post, designed to help simplify these procedures: RelyX Fiber Post 3D.

The new RelyX Fiber Post 3D builds on the original RelyX Fiber Post's eight years of clinical success. Its updated design features coronal 3-D macroretentions, which offer higher mechanical retention to the core buildup material, and a microporous surface, which enables the post to maintain a strong bond in the root canal. Post position control within the canal is improved due to enhanced radiopacity.

RelyX Fiber Post 3D can help simplify the post-and-core buildup procedure, along with three other 3M products, in four steps:

1. Begin by applying the ready-mixed RelyX Unicem 2 Automix Self-Adhesive Universal Resin Cement directly into the root canal from bottom to top using an endo tip for a virtually void-free mix.

2. Following cement application, place RelyX Fiber Post 3D in the canal without pretreatment (such as etching or silanization).

3. Apply Scotchbond Universal Adhesive to the post and surrounding tooth structure to provide a bond to the core buildup material.

4. After adhesive application, use Filtek Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative for a fast, easy, and void-free core buildup around the post.

“Performing endodontic restorative procedures can be complicated, [as they] often come with a lot of variables that a dentist can’t control,” said James Braun, DDS, MS, of Saginaw, Michigan. “With the 3M post-and-core solution, I can feel confident that I receive a robust and reliable outcome from a simple procedure.”
