CHICAGO--Dentists seeking the inside track on products used in patient care have a new resource at their fingertips.

The ADA Professional Product Review, a quarterly newsletter that launches today, aims to help dentists with product selection for their practices.

"The ADA believes scientific and clinical information should be easier to access and more relevant to dental practitioners," said Dr. David C. Sarrett, PPR editor. "We think the ADA Professional Product Review does just that, by providing comprehensive dental product information that is unbiased, scientifically sound, clinically relevant and user-friendly."

The publication, which is free to ADA members and available by subscription to non-members, typically will feature three professional dental product categories per issue and include both laboratory and clinical evaluation of numerous products within each category. Some issues will include additional information such as expert panel discussions, buyer's checklists and technology updates.

"The Professional Product Review represents a fundamental change in how the ADA evaluates dental products and communicates those results," Dr. Sarrett said. "A unique feature of the PPR is that input comes from the professional opinions and clinical experiences of practicing dentists."

Product selection is based on input from dentists who volunteer as members of the ADA Clinical Evaluator (ACE) Panel. ACE Panel members respond to product evaluation surveys and participate in panel discussions and interviews.

Their feedback appears in the newsletter and online at the PPR Web site (www.ada.org/goto/ppr), a supplemental resource that provides user tips on improving product performance, literature reviews and other material. Currently, more than 1,500 ADA members have joined the ACE Panel.

"We also have an online letters-to-the-editor feature that serves as a forum for ADA members and paid subscribers to participate in a lively exchange of information and views," added Dr. Sarrett.

"The PPR Web site is a terrific resource for our readers who want more information about the dental products that they are using or are considering purchasing."

The ADA Professional Product Review does not accept advertising. The ADA underwrites the cost of the newsletter to ensure its commitment to deliver information that is free from bias or commercial influence.
