Dr. Richard Masek wins five medals in prestigious National Smile Gallery cosmetic dentistry competition.

Using Sirona's all-ceramic CEREC® 3D restorations, Dr. Richard Masek of San Diego recently won the gold medal in the Single-Unit Anterior/Posterior Esthetics category at the 11th Annual American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) National Smile Gallery Competition.

This is the second consecutive year Dr. Masek's use of CEREC's CAD/CAM dentistry has garnered such recognition by the AACD.

"Once again, Dr. Masek has raised the bar in CAD/CAM technology by presenting esthetic cases that reflect the outstanding everyday capabilities of the Sirona CEREC 3D System," said Sirona's CEREC product marketing manager, Michael Dunn.
Dr. Masek's exceptional Single-Unit Anterior/Posterior case was created using the CEREC System and Vident™ VITA® Mark II blocks, and was enhanced by Vident's VITA 3M1 block shade. The characterization for the restoration was accomplished by using Vident's VITA Akzent. The winning case was placed using Excite® bonding agent from Ivoclar Vivadent®.
In addition to his gold award, which was presented earlier this month at the organization's 21st Annual Scientific Session in Nashville, Dr. Masek won two silver awards for exhibiting outstanding skill for separate submissions in the Single-Unit Anterior/Posterior Esthetics category, and two bronze awards for the Indirect Restorations category.

Dr. Masek, who has been mastering the art of CAD/CAM dentistry with the CEREC unit for 15 years, approaches his profession like a creative artist. "With each upgrade of Sirona's CEREC CAD/CAM unit, I continue to forge new directions in esthetic dentistry that I never thought possible. Cases once thought impossible continue to become reality by way of Sirona's continuous efforts and technological advances in CAD/CAM systems."

The Smile Gallery Competition has developed into one of the AACD's most eagerly anticipated events. The competition is open to all AACD members and determines the best of the best in clinical cosmetic dentistry. The event is organized to provide intelligent and constructive comments to the entrant, and to foster growth and development in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry.
