A Philadelphia dentist and his daughter are facing between 118 and 236 years in prison and a fine of nearly half a million dollars for committing insurance fraud. The dentist, 72-year-old Dr. Owen Rogal, and his daughter, 51-year-old Kim Rogal, will be sentenced in June and have been convicted of corrupt organizations, conspiracy, insurance fraud, and other charges.

The Rogals were performing a procedure they referred to as Radio Frequency Surgery (RFS), which they said can alleviate chronic pain and has a maximum value of $800. They were seeking reimbursements of $4,800 for each RFS procedure using a billing code for an invasive procedure performed on a nerve bundle in the brain – they claimed that the part of the body on which the procedure was performed was irrelevant.

The Rogals were able to pocket more than $1 million from billing more than $5 million to insurance companies. They will be sentenced on June 13, 2013.
