Cancellations? No-shows? Unfortunately these patients are way more common than dental practices would prefer. But most patients usually call back with an explanation, or let you know when they can reschedule.
What about those patients who make no effort to get in touch with the practice following their no-show? What if they have a medical condition that makes it very necessary that they keep their appointment?
