Difficulty in finding a job as a dental hygienist in Oregon
Observation: Oregon joins a handful of states that prefers to say it is “somewhat” difficult to find a job instead of being “very” difficult. Overall, though, 93% of Oregon hygienists think there is at least some degree of difficulty in finding work.
Length of time since last pay raise in Oregon
Observation: Oregon is five percentage points above the national average for hygienists receiving a pay raise within the last year.
Most common hourly pay rates in Oregon
$38, $40
Observation: 68% earn hourly rates in the $35 to $40 range. This puts Oregon slightly above average, but remember that the state is sandwiched between Washington and California, which tend to be trendsetters for dental hygiene salaries
Descriptions of pay arrangements based on production or commission
- 20% of production over base goal.
- If monthly production goals are exceeded in three categories, (number of hygiene patients, number of new patients, total office monetary production), each staff member receives $5 for each goal exceeded by number of patients and/or $1,000 of office production.
- 30%, not including nitrous, sedation, or things sold to patients such as Peridex. Our daily goal is $1,400 a day for a 7 1/2 hour day three days a week, and $1,000 a day for a five-hour day once a week. This week, I was over goal by $1500. So I made an extra $450. I am usually over goal every month.
- One-third of my production, or $45 per patient whichever is greater.
