SOUTH BEND, Indiana--Heraeus Kulzer, a leader in dental esthetics, participated July 14 and 17, 2011, in the cerecdoctors.com mentor meeting.

The mentor meeting preceded and followed the third annual meeting for CEREC owners, which took place July 15-16, 2011, and showcased news, products, and advancements from the front lines of CEREC technology.

Cerecdoctors.com mentor group was launched in January 2011. From humble beginnings--just an idea on how to better share CEREC-related knowledge via the Internet--cerecdoctors.com has grown into an online CEREC community, a quarterly magazine, and a full-course, hands-on curriculum at Scottsdale Center for Dentistry.

The group of CEREC mentors, about 75 in total, assist users with questions and troubleshooting online and in the hands-on courses. They represent areas of North America, and were chosen by cerecdoctors.com founders-- Dr. Sameer Puri and Dr. Armen Mirzayan--for their expertise, practices, and their example to lead in their respective region.

Mentors complete a minimum requirement of CEREC courses at Scottsdale Center for Dentistry, and maintain their proficiency by attending additional courses and events to stay on top of the world of CAD/CAM dentistry.

There are 11,000 CEREC owners in the United States and approximately 30,000 worldwide. With a large majority of those members actively online, the mentors play an important role in providing support and help.

“Mentors stay abreast of the upcoming software and hardware updates via special meetings and special access to future software updates,” said cerecdoctors.com cofounder Dr. Puri. "They also have a direct line to manufacturers, such as Heraeus, who are instrumental in creating the products that we use on a daily basis in CEREC."

Heraeus was one of five companies selected to share their insights during the meeting. The company's presentation entitled, COMPOSITES in the 3D World: Ease, Strength and Beauty, was delivered July 17 by Dr. Brian LeSage.

“CEREC and its advanced technology has opened a whole new window to explore in the 3D world," said Dr. Puri.

"In this program, Dr. LeSage discussed skills in direct composite restorations, such as layering with the aid of a matrix. He also unveiled a completely innovative concept of 3-D indirect composite restorations. Heraeus is both a leading manufacturer and educator in dentistry. They conduct hands on programs, lectures, and instructional programs at a great expense to themselves. We are anxious for them to brief our mentors and provide insights as to what is coming in the future with regards to their company’s materials and products.”

CEREC users worldwide are seen as a dedicated group.

“If someone took my CEREC machine, I would sell my practice and open up a pizza restaurant,” joked mentor Pete Gardell, DDS, who’s been a CEREC user for six years. "There is no way I could enjoy dentistry without the use of CEREC."

With the release of the next software version, a new crop of CEREC users is expected to emerge. When these users do, there’s a large group of mentors ready to provide support.

Cererdoctors.com is users helping users. We are the Wikipedia of CEREC,” said Dr. Puri.
