Dental assisting state requirements
It’s a good idea to be familiar with the dental assisting requirements in your state. DANB gathers this information and provides it online in one convenient location. Visit DANB’s website and go to the Meet State Requirements section to view the job titles and dental assisting requirements in your state. Here, you will also find a link to the state dental board website, as well as a link to a document that outlines all of the allowable duties dental assistants can perform, as well as the prohibited duties.

Exam outlines and references
f you’re preparing to take a DANB exam, creating a study plan may be top of mind. A good starting point is downloading the exam outline, which lists the topics and domains covered on the exam and the percentage of questions on the exam by domain. You can use these outlines to create your study plan to ensure you are reviewing all of the necessary topics. Additionally, DANB provides a list of suggested exam reference materials, such as textbooks and other resources that were used to develop the exam. You should prepare for DANB exams using as many different study materials as possible, so it’s a good idea to study from at least one or more of the materials on the suggested exam references list.

Review courses and practice tests*
The DALE Foundation, the official DANB affiliate, offers a variety of review courses and practice tests to help you prepare for DANB exams. The DALE Foundation’s practice tests are a great way to get comfortable with multiple choice questions, which you can take in a timed mode to get a feel for what exam day might be like. The DALE Foundation’s review courses cover topics in-depth and allow you to take notes, access other resources, and track your progress.
